"Ow! Parchment cut!"
So. Dragon Age II. I feel the need to inform you of my ~feelings~ about it. Because ... I have a lot of those.
First off, I was delighted to find that I could set the spoken language to English. YES. Finally I get to hear all those pretty, pretty accents! (And voices. Ugh, I could just listen to this game for hours. XD) For the text I chose German though, mostly so I would have a chance to recognise words from Origins. After my next playthrough, I think I'll set that to English, too. I want to know what everything's called!
Despite being hopelessly addicted (I've got three characters by now, with the first I finished the game and the second is currently stuck before the final battle due to an inconvenient decision), there are also a lot of things I found rather ... frustrating. Or inexplicable. For example, WTF happened to the darkspawn?? And certain reappearing characters. WHYYYYY. (I'm alright with the elves and qunari, oddly enough.)
No idea if there are differences depending on your choices, but I found the ending rather abrupt. And there was a battle about one third into the story that was so much more fun than the final one. I honestly didn't even recognise it as such, I thought the story wasn't over yet. :|
- So I have this tendency to attract trouble, apparently. I decided to demonstrate this by having my first character start a relationship with Anders. Erm. O___O But I forgave him because I needed a healer, LOL. (This is also why my second character is stuck, for whom keeping him around would have been totally OOC.) I found it rather irritating that my only two options were to either send him away or to forgive him at once, as if there was no middle ground. I would have liked some sort of "You can stay, but we're going to have a serious talk later and I'm not sure if I can ever trust you again" option, plz?!
- Ye gods, the kissing. LMAO. Will they ever learn to animate that properly? I swear it's worse than in Origins. XD
- EVERY CAVE IS THE SAME CAVE. EVERY HOUSE IS THE SAME HOUSE. WHY.
- Because my first character was female, I can't seem to stop associating the names Hawke and Champion with a woman. Playing a male character exactly as long didn't help at all ... (I also kept forgetting that Anders was not my boyfriend. This may be unrelated.)
- SO MANY POSSIBILITIES. I had this moment when I was nearing the end for the first time where I found myself thinking something along the lines of, "Next I want to try being a bit anti-magic so I can be friends with Fenris. Or possibly more than friends. No, wait - perhaps I could manage to do that without being anti-magic?! Could I get him to change his mind, even?? What if I was a mage - would it be possible to romance him as a mage? BUT I WANTED MY MAGE TO BE A LESBIAN." XD XD XD (Ended up being a male warrior who shared Fenris' paranoia. And even that was a compromise because for some reason I think it would make more sense for him to be with a woman. IDEK. I just didn't want two female characters in a row.)
- I could probably write another whole post just about Merrill.
- Now I really wish I had played Awakening.
- Why is nobody writing Anders/Fenris fanfic ... clearly this demands to be done. :P
- Oh Aveline. *facepalm* That was hilarious. I found it annoying that as a rogue I basically had to take her with me everywhere, though. Why do they never give us more than one tank?
- My poor left arm. I don't understand how people can prefer to play like this.
- Varric the romance novel author. Ehehehe.
- ALISTAIR WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR PRETTY FACE D: (Zevran is at least understandable because he's an elf.) Also, I lol'd at "Swooping is bad" for no other reason than that I knew from the internet that it was a thing. Must have been less funny in German.
- I like that the family members get different faces depending on which skin colour you choose. I hadn't even expected them to have the same skin colour, so I was pleasantly surprised. But they didn't exactly manage to make most shades look natural, huh?
- My third character is SO PRETTEH. I keep taking screenshots out of awe.
- ... I should probably stop now or I'd go on forever.
ETA: Something I forgot earlier. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the spooky athmosphere from the circle in Origins. Considering that the circle was always my least favourite part, I think that's saying something ...
