Space Whales & Disappointment

Wow, this time the new Doctor really took me by surprise. I had expected a regeneration scene or at least an explanation of what happened. (Oops.) I don't know, I sort of like him, but ... I found two out of the first three episodes of season 5 so freaking boring that I stopped watching after that. Even the Daleks were boring - how is that even possible?! I thought there was no such thing as boring Daleks.

Seriously, am I just being weird again or do other people think so, too? I'm so confused that I'm actually digging up old discussion posts. Maybe I'm too tired to appreciate the new episodes properly, though I doubt it. No amount of tiredness could have made the previous four seasons boring - there were plotholes and things I didn't agree with, yes, but I wasn't bored for a minute.

Also, I dislike the new intro music.

Have I mentioned Torchwood lately?? (Outside of Twitter, that is.) I'm done with all episodes that exist so far and ... well. Season 3 was ... one giant disaster. From what I've gathered, fandom seems to be split into those who are very upset about what happened, and those who accept it because they enjoyed the story so much, but to be honest I just thought it was shitty writing. Plus it was so freaking long, in the sense that a single storyline stretched out over five whole episodes, that after a certain point I was seriously tempted to skip to the end because I wanted the earth to be saved already. One more plot twist and I would have lost all interest.

It was exciting and dramatic, but eventually I got tired of the excitement and drama. Alright, I thought, what's going to go wrong next? I don't even care anymore, I just want to know how this ends.

And while I loved that Rhys became part of the team for a while (I love Rhys; Rhys is awesome), there was something very wrong about the fact that in the end it was the happy couple, the most "normal" member of the team in every sense of the word and her dear husband, who survived the whole thing relatively undamaged. I mean, everyone else is either dead or gone, but them? They're expecting a baby. That totally rubbed me the wrong way. In fact I was almost disappointed that Rhys didn't die, despite how much I love him. I'd been expecting something to happen to him since season 1 because I thought it would be fitting if Gwen had to suffer such a dramatic loss. Meh.
