In which there is stuff. And strange surprises.

Because A wanted to stop by today, I made an extra effort and finally managed to clean up the living room a bit. Aside from that, I'm mostly busy rediscovering how much getting up in the afternoon sucks. It's so hard to find the time to go grocery shopping that way! Bah. And you can't make any important phone calls, either.

I suppose I will devote the rest of this short day to cleaning the floors, before I finally take a shower. Yikes. (I always feel the need to do these two things in that order. Since I shower every other day under normal circumstances, that means I also vacuum the kitchen and the bathroom every other day. Every sixth day or so they get mopped, and randomly I will include the hall. It works out somehow. Now, the carpeted rooms on the other hand ... no system in place at all there.)

In other news, I sort of appear to have won something. I'm not entirely sure what, or how for that matter. I participated in several free online lotteries lately, yes, but those were for prices like an XBox or a laptop! Not ... that. I'm not sure how to describe it. I suppose I have won the opportunity to play Lotto for free for three months (starting in September), with a much higher chance of winning than usual? It sounded a bit sketchy. I'm awaiting a confirmation on paper, which will hopefully make a little more sense. It would be nice though. Imagine winning €100 every week for three months, or something! Just what I need right now ...

An online lottery sounds really odd to me. I don't think we have those over here. It would be cool if you win though :)

Perhaps "lottery" was just not the right word? I did have some trouble deciding which word to use, because I looked up the German "Gewinnspiel" and got "raffle, contest, sweepstake, competition, lottery". Then I looked up those because I still wasn't sure which to pick, but most of them sounded like you needed to do something to win, rather than just entering your name. "Lottery" seemed closest to what I meant, but maybe not ... LOL. It's odd that I didn't know the answer in the first place.

Hmm. Sweepstakes would make more sense to me, since lottery just makes me think of the state lottery, where you pick some numbers and wait to see if they draw the same ones. Which is pretty much the same thing as a raffle except raffles make me think of charity drives or small festivals. Maybe it's a size thing?. I'm not sure how they use the word lottery in British English. Maybe lottery is the right word over there. They're all pretty similar. I think contest might work too. We do have online sweepstakes here in theory, but I've never found one that wasn't a scam, so I think I'd be confused no matter which word you used.

That is exactly what "raffle" makes me think of, too. XD Perhaps it's "sweepstakes", then. Well, this thing doesn't look like a scam so far, but I'm still nervous that there's going to be a catch of some kind. Especially since I'm not sure how I got into it! I probably signed up for it by accident while trying to win those other things ...

Unrelatedly, I know that kind of confusion from when Americans talk about saving tons of money with coupons. I have never seen a single coupon for anything I actually needed or even wanted, LOL. Maybe other Germans are luckier in that regard, but I doubt it.
