I'm back from the appointment with the psychiatrist. Phew. I'm glad that's finally over and done with, especially since I had so much trouble sleeping last night that I'm amazed I even made it out of bed.

He seemed nice, but mostly recommended that I see a pain specialist and find a therapist before we get on with the diagnosing business. He also told me that fibromyalgia is apparently no longer officially recognised as a condition. Uh. Well, I don't really care anymore; it has never been more than a name for a bundle of symptoms anyway. If they want to call that something else now or treat each symptom individually, so be it. Whatever.

I was prescribed Cymbalta, which could be great news. I know it's done wonders for many people with chronic pain. However, it's still an antidepressant and that means I remain skeptical. I wouldn't be particularly surprised if I ended up with really strange side effects again.

If I start to ramble nonsense two weeks from now, NO WORRIES: IT'S THE DRUGS. -.-

Since the doctor I saw this morning has his office in a town I'd never been to before (and I'm not currently a fan of public transport anyway), A offered to drive me there. I almost regret this now because I unexpectedly found myself being quite fascinated with the place and would have liked to see a little more of it than just the view out of a car window.

It has buildings that are five hundred years old! Five hundred years. How awesome is that?? We drove past a bakery with a sign proclaiming it to have existed since 1632 - the bakery, not the building. People have been selling bread in there for almost four centuries. I AM FASCINATED OK.

Also, Glückstadt was founded by the King of Denmark. That is cool for the simple reason that it makes me think of Hamlet. :P

I don't know if 500-year-old buildings are even all that special, but I certainly haven't seen many in my life ...

I just installed some new Firefox add-ons, learned how to use Google Calendar, cleaned up my iGoogle homepage and then added some more widgets to it. Over the course of the last few months, I have also changed my general note-taking and data-storing methods somewhat, and recently I've been working on finding better ways to keep my files in order.

As a result, I am kinda sorta starting to feel like a vaguely organised person. Wow. You wouldn't think I'd need to be very organised, what with not having a job or anything, but remember that my mind is a sieve and I am frequently confused. This is going to help a lot.

Once upon a time, I announced that I was going to write a software recommendation post and then never did so. Well, I tried ... it's just that some of the things I had originally meant to include suddenly started to cause problems, so I had to find replacements, got distracted, forgot about the post for a long time and eventually realised that I wasn't even using half of the stuff anymore by then. I still have an old, half-finished draft of it though.

Perhaps I could turn it into a general overview of everything I use and do to make interacting with the computer more practical and fun. If nothing else, it would be an opportunity for everyone to tell me how I'm Doing It Wrong. ;)
